Back in the Real World

Monday 28th April 2008
We were up at 6am today, ready for an early start to the day at the Café. Graham, the ex owners son met us just after 7am and proceeded to show us around and explain the routines that they have been working to for the last 2 years. He worked with us until about 1.30pm before leaving us to get on with it, the staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough to help and when we announced that we needed somebody to stay and work until 5pm rather than the 2pm that they were used to there were no shortage of volunteers.
The extra couple of hours that we did were quiet but kept us ticking over, but considering this is the first time the place has been open after lunch since the last people took over 2 years ago the signs are good. As we said the staff were brilliant and have all volunteered for extra shifts throughout the week, and with Fliss working as well we are pretty confident that we will cover all the extra hours.
We finished about half an hour later than we had anticipated but that had more to do with the fact that we didn’t really have a routine to work to, hopefully we’ll get our act together before long.
In the evening we went home and Ian cooked a meal for a change, normally we would hope to feed the kids in the Café after school but as they were not at school today it threw all our best laid plans out of the window, but hey we’re in Australia now and we’re laid back so No Worries.
We might be laid back now but today we’re also knackered, it’s been 5 months since we had to do a days work and we are all feeling it, even Fliss is struggling and she’s only been dossing for 4 months and 26 days because she didn’t leave the Crown Inn until about 4 days after us.
We all had an early night again tonight ready for an early start tomorrow.
